Summary

This month we are going to be chatting a lot about reading, how to read more, and WHY we would want to read more. Today I'm giving some reasons for investing in reading and some tips for reading more...no matter what that means for YOU! Listen in! Listen to the Podcast: You can find the notes for this episode down below. And don’t forget to subscribe to the podcast in iTunes.  Right click here and save-as to download this episode to your computer. Why I read and invest in reading: As a Christian, I think it's important to be learning and growing. As a mother, I want to model to my kids what it means to be a life long learner. And reading is very relaxing to me. It fills up my cup so that I can in turn fill up the cups around me. So when considering reading more, keep those in mind! But also keep in mind that we all derive different levels of enjoyment out of reading. For me, it's ALSO my entertainment and what Jason and I choose for leisure. You might not enjoy it that much, and that's okay! Reading will mean different things to each of us. If you don't think you enjoy reading that much, I do encourage you to try some new types of books and see if you don't fall in love. Try new genres, try audiobooks, or different times of day for reading. When setting a goal can help: It can help incentivize you to pick up books. It helps develop a routine. When we do 2 books a week, it naturally helps us pace those. It can help you choose things OVER television or social media. Which is almost always the right thing ;) It helps me FINISH books. Which has greatly paid off because some of my most impactful reading moments have been in the last chapter or so. 0:11.3

inspiration, and encouragement you need to craft a gospel-centered home.

And now your host from youngwifesguide.com, Jamie Belmay.

0:21.0

Hey, ladies, welcome back to my podcast.

0:24.0

Today we're talking about, of course, one of my favorite topics in the whole world,

0:29.1

and that is reading and getting creative with reading and why I invest so much time and

0:35.3

energy into reading.

0:37.4

It's going to be a fun episode. In a little while,

0:39.5

we'll hear from today's sponsors, homeschool magnet and vista print. But reading, it is the time

0:45.1

of year to talk about reading because every December, Jason and I come out with our reading

0:50.2

challenge for the next year. We've done it, what, four or five years in a row now, and we're gearing up to put together the 2021 Reading Challenge. It's a free challenge we put out,

1:01.1

and it's coming soon. We're actually working on some fun ways to rejigger it and make it

1:05.7

even better this year, make it really fun and exciting, especially considering we've done

1:10.0

kind of the same format for

1:11.2

the last few years.

1:12.3

We're going to change it up and have some fun with it.

1:14.4

So that'll be coming some point before Christmas when we can kind of find some time to do that.

1:20.8

But because of that over on Instagram, we've been talking a lot about reading and investing

1:25.2

in reading and kind of, like I said, why do I spend so much time

1:29.9

and energy in reading? And in a couple of episodes, probably right when we release the

1:34.8

reading challenge, I'll have Jason on the show with me. It's one of our favorite shows to do.
