This is guest host Kurt Schlichter. This is the Hugh Hewitt show. I'm a little more sober today than usual.

Not that I drink, but we're on the eve of war, and I don't think there's any other conclusion that we can draw.

Now, you probably know me as a senior columnist at Town Hall, former Los Angeles trial lawyer, but I was also a colonel for almost 30 years

active in reserve in the infantry and serving in other capacities. And 35 years ago, right now,

about three days off, February 24, 1991, I was a young platoon leader in the Persian Gulf.

I was co-located with Seven Corps Maine.

My platoon was supporting it.

But I knew what was going to happen that night because I had seen the Desert Storm War

plan lying on a table secret. So I started looking through it. And I knew what was supposed to

happen. I knew what my platoon was supposed to do. And I knew what was supposed to happen to the unit

I was going to be working with.

And on the 23rd of February, like those young men and women who are now around Iran, I went to work.

I got my platoon.

We checked our weapons, checked our equipment, got everything ready.

We were ready to roll, when called, and then we went to bed. And at O'Dark 30, phone rings, answer.

And they said, the ground war has started. You know what you need to do. And we did it. We got ready.
