Summary

Welcome to episode 2 of 5 in our first Summer Series called, On Becoming Great Parents. We hope you download the pdf files that go along with these episodes (found in show notes below) and use them in your small groups, with your spouse, or as a companion guide to the content.

*Note: We originally titled this episode On Motherhood, Healing, and Finding Your Voice. However, we changed the title after the recording because the content is about becoming a calmer parent, and whether you're a mom or dad, the journey to become calmer is for all of us.

In this episode, Josh interviews Christi on her 17-year journey of chronic pain and how the healing journey of her physical pain surprisingly taught her things about herself that emotionally helped her become calmer and more present with her kids.

Some highlights include:
  • How to overcome difficult seasons of our lives and embrace the gradual process of healing
  • Discerning between internal or external influences keeping us living in fight or flight mode
  • Practical ways we reconnect back to ourselves and how that can help us be a calmer presence for our children
  • The importance of paying attention to what your body needs in small doses

Here are timestamps for each of the topics:

(3:23) Honoring Moms

(3:54) Josh + Christi’s revealing conversation about how they communicate

(7:07) Christi sharing the importance of her finding her voice and sharing what people need to hear

(8:06) How our voice is a light on a hill, carrying the Kingdom of God with us wherever we go

(9:30) The importance of Mother’s Day and the fuel that Mother’s Day should be for a mother

(11:20) Why being told she was “calm” meant so much to Christi and the influence the body has on our emotions

(14:40) Christi shares about her 17 years of chronic pain and what she’s learned about how God speaks to us through our bodies

(18:15) Why the body cannot heal in a constant state of fight or flight, and how to recognize whether our hurriedness is coming from internal or external influences

(20:45) How Christi got “calm” and practical ways become calmer

(25:30) How our child's needs can feel unsafe to us, and how to calmly respond to our child's needs instead of reacting to them

(30:11) Honor your journey of healing, no matter where you're at on that journey

(31:57) Encouragement and a blessing from Christi for where you’re at in your journey right now

Welcome back to the Famous and Home podcast. Today, I'm excited about part two of our five-part

0:06.3

series that we're doing on becoming great parents. Today is an interview that I hold with

0:11.8

Christy that resonated so much with women. It's called On Motherhood Healing and Finding Your

0:18.4

Voice. And even if you're a husband and you're listening to this, I really

0:21.9

encourage you to dive into this episode. Listen to what Christy has to say because I would imagine that

0:27.9

for so many of us, our wives are looking to find their voice. And it's hard in the midst of

0:34.2

motherhood and just even through healing of past pain, Christy enters into some of that.

0:40.6

And I think it's insightful for each of us, especially as husbands, even to know how to come

0:44.4

alongside our wives. And remember, we're doing a series here on becoming great parents. And so

0:48.8

for each of us, that's an individual journey. And so we're spending some time here now, diving into, in an interview with

0:57.1

Christy on motherhood. And then later on in the series, we'll get into an interview with me on

1:02.7

fatherhood. But it's really important that we pay attention to who we're becoming as mothers and

1:07.8

fathers. And that's what this journey here in this series is all about.

1:12.3

Today we're focusing on motherhood healing and finding your voice. Part of that journey,

1:18.9

part of what came out of this episode, fascinatingly enough, is tender and fierce. And if you

1:25.2

have not signed up for tender and fierce, if you haven't even

1:28.2

checked into it yet, I'm telling you, it is one of the most beautiful journeys that I've

1:34.1

ever watched for Christy to lead and what women go through. I don't know of anything like it.

1:41.9

And I would just highly encourage you to check it out.

1:45.3

It's in the show notes today. Registration is now available and open. And it starts August

1:52.2

the 7th. And so if today's episode resonates with you, I really encourage you to check out

1:59.3

tender and fierce because it is a journey that really does
