Behind every great fortune lies a great crime because this is hell and a great fortune is being made today in California off of the legal recreational marijuana industry.

But like all of the agricultural sector, far too many of those profits are being captured

by big corporations at the expense of generational, small, heritage, rural family farmers.

You may remember here in Illinois in the run up to legalize recreational weed.

Many marijuana advocates, including myself, were warning about legalization and how legalizing it was not the same as decriminalizing it.

That legalization brought in the law and regulators who far too often benefit from big money

rather than have any concern for those who have spent lifetimes, if not generations, cultivating

herb. The small farmers, as are the ones left out when big egg steps in.

Well that's exactly what has happened with legal recreational marijuana in California

and it's likely for that to happen in a state

near you if not your state when it comes to legal weed.

With the high expense of licensing and the cost of fulfilling all the burdensome regulations.

Many growers are forced out of the legal trade and must return to the refuge of the more illicit trade or illicit market to avoid bankruptcy.

To ensure all this legal weed brings in tons of tax revenue for the state but in

places like California where Northern California's famed Emerald Triangle of

Humboldt Trinity and Mendocino counties, provided some of the

planet's best herb dating back some 60 years now.

Those same growers who once contributed to schools and fire departments out of a sense of civic spirit are failing.
