Hello everyone, I'm talking to you from the middle of Broadway.

I'm in New York and I'm sitting in a traffic island to be honest outside the Columbia University campus.

I'm hoping to get in later on this morning.

That's where all the huge student protests have been taking place, where they began.

Of course they've spread nationwide now. protests have

security or staff ID to get in.

They let press in, but only if you're escorted and we're waiting for somebody to

come out from the journalism school they've been very good at helping the press

get in and provide us an escort. Until that arrives I'm here in the middle of the

road so apologies for any traffic noise but it's

great to be on the scene of where this is happening it's kind of remarkable what

has grown up just in the last week or so across America in campuses from the

east to west coast all over the country these student protests have been

getting bigger and bigger, louder and louder. The police have been called in a few occasions to break them up.

Nope, you can hear a siren there showing that there's some security outside this campus as well.

Did you pay them to do that Sarah?

They're so loud the sirens in America, they're absolutely ear-splitting.

Oh, it's the land of the loud sirens. It's a wonderful place. Another reason why it's such a wonderful place.

Oh no, it's hideous. I hate it. It's one of the things I hate about America is incredibly loud sirens.
