And today we're discussing part one of our dive into our very first monthly book club.

This month we're discussing on becoming an alchemist by Catherine McCowen.

We hope you're reading along with us and enjoying the book too.

Now the main premise of this book is teaching the reader how to become a spiritual alchemist,

how to transform your inner self through what the author calls alchemical magic.

She says that all magicians operate on the assumption that inward events can influence outward

events that external phenomenon can be altered by what goes on in the mind.

Now think about that quote for a moment.

The background noise of thoughts, worries, hopes, fears and intentions has a direct effect on what

is happening in your life right now. She says contrary to popular belief, this is also an assumption

shared by most scientists. Now I read that and was like, hmm really I don't think so. I don't think

scientists are like yes let's manifest a parking spot. But she says scientists have to go out of

their way to eliminate mental factors from their physical experiments. When testing a new drug for

example, they must control for the placebo effect. That is the fact that a certain percentage of

patients will get better if you give them a sugar pill and tell them it's medicine. The separation

of material events from mental events is an artificial condition that occurs only in the science lab.

It's not how things work in the real world and that's so true. We don't take time to filter out

our mental thoughts from our actions. They're intertwined. And I never really paused to think how

this one aspect of science taking into account the placebo effect shows that science agrees with

manifesting principles. Isn't that an interesting connection and it's so obvious?
