Transmitting from the Mojave Wilderness in Joshua Tree, California, now is the time for Desert Oracle Radio, the voice of the desert.

Night has fallen on the desert. It's July and the desert is hot.

So at least one part of this wild year is happening as expected.

It cools off at night if we're lucky a little bit.

We love the high desert for a lot of reasons,

but the fact that it usually cools off at night,

that's a real good reason.

You want to be able to open the windows a little bit at night,

get some fresh air in the place.

Open them up when it's late.

Close the windows on the east-facing side. As soon soon as you wake up sort of work your way

around the cabin the house the shack the trailer down in the low desert people adapt in their

own ways getting up at 4 a.m. to walk the dog before the sidewalks are too hot.

Getting in some golf or whatever before the sun's up when it's still only 98 degrees outside.

And even up here in the high desert, you cannot do a whole lot outside between about 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

You sort of miss out on a lot of the daytime.

So you spend a lot of time under the swamp cooler with all the shades down.

Yes, all right, it's seasonal adjustments. I've been thinking I'd like to get out of here, is what I'm saying.

But not yet. And where could you go? like to get out of here is what I'm saying.

But not yet.

And where could you go?

Anyway, I think about Iceland a lot.
