Don't adjust the audio. I'm just speaking in one of these annoying, quasi fake whispers that so

many podcasts and NPR hosts use now. I'm not saying all the hosts are annoying. I'm just saying

the voice is annoying. I guess it's because it encourages people to lean in and listen. That's sort

of forces you to do more active listening. That's at least my theory. My previous theory was just

that Michael Barbaro, the host of the Daily, simply recorded most podcasts while struggling on the

toilet. But the reason I'm whispering now and I'm going to stop this fake whispering, the reason why

I'm being a little lower key, lower volume is that it is barely five. It's not quite yet five

o'clock in the morning. I'm in Portland, Oregon and I don't know how thin these walls are for

my neighbors. So I don't want to do my normal projecting. And yes, I'm in Oregon, I don't know how

secret I need to keep this. But I'm here for personal stuff. It's all good. I'm excited to talk

about it, but I got to talk to my wife about it first. But I'm not here for work or anything.

Although I spent most of the day just doing nothing but work, we kind of had a logistical screw up

where, you know, as you may recall, my wife drove my daughter out to college in Southern California.

And then we had to be in Portland. So she flew up from Southern California. I flew out from

the from Washington, DC. And when we were planning this, she was like, you know, you shouldn't just

like turn around and go home the next day. So, you know, why don't we stay till Friday? So I booked

my flight till Friday. She forgot. She said this and booked her return on Thursday. And I couldn't

get a good flight or a good seat back yesterday. So I spent the day alone in Portland working.

And walking around, I walked, I'm going to write about this for the G file today. So to weird G
