I am your host Margo and I'm going to start this episode with a little bit of my military mumbo jumbo

because it's called Military Murder so I want to give you guys a little bit of background.

I'm going to start with this.

Many people join the military, kind of straight out of high school.

And just like when you're in college, a lot of people want to study abroad and in the military people want to be stationed overseas.

And one of the dream assignments is Kadina Air Base, Japan.

And this base is on an island called Okinawa.

Now, did you know that the island of Okinawa has over 50,000 American military personnel?

That's a lot of Americans.

And if you add in the other US civilians who work there, the number is closer to 80,000.

And even with all of these people and all of these Americans and we all know Americans like to act a fool,

violent crime is particularly low on the island.

And that's why it was surprising when the body of an airman was discovered brutally murdered in his off base apartment in 2011.

Was the murder a result of the rising tensions between the Japanese and the Americans? Or was it something more sinister?
