Summary

On this postgame Buckeye Talk, Doug Lesmerises, Nathan Baird and Stephen Means run through No. 3 Ohio State's 52-21 win over Wisconsin in Ohio Stadium on Saturday night. First up, the Ohio State defense, which proved that Graham Mertz isn't good and gang-tackled Wisconsin running back Braelon Allen all night. The Buckeyes held down the Badgers while missing their top three cornerbacks. Then at 24:41, the talk turns to the Ohio State offense -- the two running backs, the offensive line, tight end Cade Stover, and the receiver play without Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Also discussed is Ryan Day's play-calling, which may have been as good as it has ever been. Finally, at 1:00:08, the focus turns to quarterback C.J. Stroud, who threw five touchdown passes but admitted he has to make sure he doesn't get bored handing the ball off. Thanks for listening to Buckeye Talk from cleveland.com. Hey, hey, where you been? But got to talk is about to begin. Hey, hey, hey, come on in.

0:27.6

What if Grandmurts isn't good? Welcome back to Bucket Talk. It's Doug Lamarie,

0:33.4

Nathan Barrett, and Steven Meanzo, Ohio State, 52-21 over Wisconsin. We are going to start

0:39.0

on the defensive side of the ball for Ohio State. But when we talk about the Ohio State

0:43.0

offense, I think it's possible we saw something that was about as successful as we have seen

0:49.4

it in the Ryan Day era. Nathan, when we talked about this on the pre-game show,

0:57.6

the headline I went up putting on the pre-game show was Ohio State Wisconsin is Jim Knowles

1:01.8

versus Grandmurts. Ohio State was down three of its top four cornerbacks. You thought, all right,

1:09.4

maybe they'll be able to attack Ohio State a little bit. Wisconsin gained like, let's see,

1:15.4

how many yards? 296 total yards, 5.3 yards per play, and that was greatly aided by a 75-yard

1:24.2

brilliant Allen run against second stringers late in the game. How did you think Jim Knowles

1:30.0

and this Ohio State defense fared against what Wisconsin tried to say wasn't attack?

1:37.9

I think you'd have to give them strong marks for what they did in this game. Now, I think

1:43.4

talking the time that I could bring after the game, I was kind of bringing up this same concept

1:47.3

because Ohio State broke a trend tonight. If you remember, Notre Dame goes down and drives on its

1:52.4

first, the drives from field goal on the first possession of that game. Arkansas State did nothing

1:58.2

on its first possession. Ohio State goes up seven-nothing. Arkansas State goes down kicks the field goal.

2:02.2

And then Toledo, Ohio State scores first. Toledo goes right down on scores. So tonight, this defense

2:08.6

made its impact early. You get the, the Ohio State scores opening drive. Termicalister gets the

2:14.7

interception. He turned that into a touchdown. They shot Wisconsin down again. They turned that

2:18.5

into a touchdown. So all of a sudden, it's 21 to nothing and reminiscent of a little bit of the

2:23.1

Michigan State game last year. Now you've got a team that is sort of taken out of its comfort zone
