I want to welcome you to the beat, to the new year, a lot going on. We have a big show plan.

We have some interesting things we think across the hour. And it is great to see you and be back

together as we start a new year. Now, if you follow the news at all, you may know that we are

following a range of stories, including the very serious New Year's Day incidents that occurred both in

New Orleans and Las Vegas. And I want to begin in New Orleans to tell you the latest we have on

this because 14 people were killed there, including the attacker, 35 injured in this horrific

targeted attack when he drove through that crowd of people on the much beloved Bourbon Street. FBI officials

deeming this terrorism, they do say they can determine that they believe the actor attacked,

the attacker basically, who did this, was functioning and acting alone.

We do not assess at this point that anyone else involved in this attack is involved in this attack.

This was an act of terrorism.

It was premeditated and an evil act.

We recovered an ISIS flag from the back of the vehicle.

Jabbar declared his support for the terrorist group on social media, as I

stated before, as he made his way to New Orleans. That's the stuff in the coming days as far as

that path to radicalization that we're really going to be digging into. What I can't tell you right

now is that he was 100% inspired by ISIS.

That's what the authorities determined there.

The investigation is ongoing, but we do know the attacker was identified as 42-year-old Army veteran Sam Suu Din Jabar.

He is a U.S. citizen.

He is from Texas.

Authorities say that he posted five videos online through Facebook, and that was on that same night
