Luke Diemont is a pushcart nominated writer from Amsterdam where he lives with his partner and child in their

imaginary pets. By day he works as a literacy coordinator. He has writing out or is forthcoming in

The Deeps, small wonders, and Cantius, among others.

When not writing, he enjoys spending time with his family watching the plants on his

balcony grow and thinking about lemurs.

So my dear listener, I hope that you can sit back relax and let me tell you

a story. Dear Ms Bloom, Bloom, this is to inform you that your daughter has been in violation of several school rules of late, despite the school's clear policy on the use of

microclimate hardware, Aubrey has not only refused to turn her my clai off for the past three days,

but she has also left it continually on rain. I'm sure you can imagine the kind of disruption this has been causing.

Ordinarily we would give her detention, but given the nature of the problem, we feel this would be a bigger punishment for us and for Aubrey. We must therefore ask that

you talk to Aubrey and impress upon her the importance of following school rules. Yours,

Dear Miss Harris, I do not need to imagine. When Aubrey was ten, she went on a hunger strike

because she wanted a puppy. I'm currently getting ready to walk our dog
