The universe is just aligned for Off the Looking Glass this week because we have an episode

from history where we have some really cool stories that I doubt the listener has ever

heard and we have an athlete on the show that maybe only a few of you have heard of and

what I love is that we are in the process of mythologizing women's sports here on Off the Looking

Glass. That's, it's interesting you should mention it because I read an op-ed recently in the New

York Times about mythologizing women's sports. What a prestigious place to put a piece of

writing. Wow. It was written by you, Kate. What? Why don't you tell the audience where they can find

that but also give us the cliff notes? Yeah. And then we'll tell everyone what they should expect in

piece was really to talk about just the process of mythologizing in sports and how so often the

half-life of women's sports decays more rapidly than men's sports because we don't have a preservation

process because for all the reasons we talk about here on Off the Looking Glass, we don't

very, not very frequently do we do the documentary work and the photography and the distribution of

the moments and they become art and all of the things that help preserve our stories from history

almost never does that happen on the women's side and talking about the value of that for women's

sports. That was my cliff notes. Even the stat keeping. The things that you think are second nature

when you're googling something about someone like I'm sure this happened to you when you were writing

hoop muses. It certainly happens when we're researching this show. There's so many fewer resources

when you go back a certain amount of years to actually read anything in depth about a topic that

would probably have like 15 documentaries in a Netflix series if it were the same subject but
