Kate, we were so stupid. We were so dumb. We were like, oh, we're good luck charms.

Oh, we're not. It's like the old saying when people show you who they are, believe them.

We were going back and forth on previous episodes of Off the Looking Glass, saying, I don't know,

we've seen some subpar play from the US women's national team, but it's gonna get better,

and it did get better. It did get better. That's what's so frustrating, Kate.

They got knocked out of a game that was by far in a way the best game they played this entire

tournament, and it was in the most brutal way possible. Yeah. If she scores, sweet and wins,

the US is out. Partying. Can it go in? Winning in the signal. You're going to be kidding.

I mean, I have a lot of pain in my heart for Kelly O'Hara and Megan Rapinoe. When it comes to

Sophia Smith, sailing her PK, she's going to have so many more opportunities on the global stage,

but that is like Megan said, the stuff of nightmares, but if you stick around long enough,

it's gambling, right? If you keep playing your career on that, it becomes more and more likely

as the world catches up to us. It's a good point. After the US lost to Sweden, England almost lost

to Nigeria also on PKs, and that would have at least made me feel slightly better, not because

I'm rooting against them. I'm very indifferent to who wins at this point. Honestly, I kind of want

Sweden to win. Yeah, me too. But it would have made me feel a little bit better just to know like,

this is a really hard tournament to win. That being said, Kate, losing in the round of 16 is the

worst that this team's ever done at this tournament. And there is almost no silver lining other than

maybe it's a good wake-up call to figure out what needs to be figured out before the next cycle.

It's probably the first World Cup since 2007, where you could say that no ground was gained

for women's soccer in the United States. Every other World Cup, you're like, they grew the game.
