I'm Hannah Smith. Today we're going to speak with attorney Michael Calgill about a wrongful death case of a 39-year-old

husband and father Patrick Coyne. But before we get into that interview, we want to talk about something

called Kratum. You may have heard of it. You may have not. You may have seen it being sold at a gas

station near you. This episode involves Kratum in a pretty major way. And so before we get into the case,

we wanted to talk just a little bit about what it is and give anyone who might not be familiar

some context for Kratom. Yeah. So Kratum, you've probably walked right past it before, even if you

weren't aware, because it's pretty

easy to come by. And it's actually spelled K-R-A-T-O-M. It comes from a plant, a tropical evergreen

tree native to Southeast Asia. And it can be marketed and sold as different things, a mood

enhancer, energy booster, or pain reliever.

People utilize it for all three of those reasons, but we hear about it a lot, especially for pain relief.

And it typically comes in powder form or capsules.

You can also find it in extracts, edibles, and sometimes as a drink.

And all of that, like, at a gas station.
