Hello, this is Jane and welcome to another Friday bonus episode of Offair with Jane and Fee.

Now, today's conversation comes off the back of an interview I did a couple of weeks ago

with a man called Stefan Babineau, who was one of

Giselle Pelico's lawyers, and it was around the time of the publication of Giselle's memoir,

a hymn to Life, which is now an international bestseller. Now, the memoir was, of course,

written in French, and it led to a conversation on off air about how you translate such a

sensitive text and how close the translation is to the original. Now brilliantly one of our

listeners Hattie told us she knows one of the translators who worked on Giselle Pelico's memoir.

So I've been fortunate enough to speak to Natasha Lera,

who I think it's okay to say is the mom of Hattie's boyfriend,

and her colleague Ruth Driver,

who worked together as a tag team really to translate him to life into English.

Here they are, they're both hugely accomplished women, as you'll hear,

and I started by asking Ruth, just how many languages she speaks? Bilingual, certainly, because I grew up in France,

multilingual, approximately, yes. I studied Russian all through school and university and lived

for a long time in Germany, So those are my two other languages.

But I translate literary fiction, mostly from French.

Okay, I was going to ask whether you do fiction or nonfiction.

You tend to do literary fiction, you said.

Yeah, literary fiction or memoir, literary nonfiction, I suppose.

Okay. And Natasha, what about you? How many languages can you speak or do you understand
