Summary

This week's Friday special marks the 500th episode of Off Air, so we wanted to explore a topic close to our hearts.

We heard from Katharine Sacks-Jones, CEO of Become -  the national charity that supports children and young people with experience of the care system - and Jess, a student who was moved out of care during her mock A levels.

This conversation was originally broadcast on our Times Radio afternoon show (2–4 pm, Monday to Thursday).

Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Catherine, can I start with you?

1:27.6

And just perhaps you could outline to us the system that these young people are in

1:32.1

and what's happening to them when they're approaching the end of the care system and their adult life?

1:38.7

Yeah.

1:39.3

Well, what our research found was that 15,000 young people each year are being moved Ditha during their

1:45.9

GCSE or A level years. And the reason for that really is a couple of things. But one, the care
