Hi, friends. I'm Annie F. Downs. Let's read the Gospels. The Gospels are the first four books of

the New Testament, the Bible, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. These are the stories of Jesus Christ's

life on earth, the friendships, the parables, the sacrifices, the meals, the miracles. Something we

say around here a lot is that you don't have to be in the Gospels every day to be changed,

but every day you're in the Gospels will change you. So I'm so glad you're here with us today.

Each month this year, we have read all four of those books, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John,

we do it in different orders and different versions. But make sure you're subscribed today.

Join us as we read the Gospels together this month. Here's how this is going to work. I'm going

to read three chapters to you today. You can listen or read along in your own Bible, the N-R-S-V,

or the N-R-S-V Catholic Edition. And then I'll pray. And that's it. So today is October 11th,

and I'll be reading Matthew chapters 15 through 17. And this month, I'm reading in the N-R-S-V

Catholic Edition. Matthew 15. Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said,

Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands before

they eat. He answered them. And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your

tradition? For God said, honor your father and your mother. And whoever speaks evil of father or

mother must surely die. But you say that whoever tells father or mother whatever support you might

have had for me is given to God, then that person need not honor the father. So for the sake of your

tradition, you make void the word of God, you hypocrites. Isaiah prophesied rightly about you when he

said, This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me and vain to they

worship me, teaching human precepts as doctrines. Then he called the crowd to him and said to them,

Listen and understand, it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but it is what
