And today on the program, Alex Chadwick spends two and a half tumultuous days at Occupy Wall Street. The cops are saying to the protesters, you got to keep moving, you got to be going.

And they are.

The Occupy Movement is now spread across the country and around the world.

But go back to its earliest days and weeks

in Zuccotti Park in Lower Manhattan,

it was just a single spontaneous protest action,

not much more than a crowd of people of pretty much like mine at the time still numbering in only the low thousands

they face down the authorities trying to evict them and they also battled

themselves. I do have neighbors that face Zuccotti Park.

Drums carry particularly well.

It travels, it bounces against the walls of tall buildings.

It's not like an acoustic guitar.

Public radio producer Alex Chadwick met a number of the young people who first found themselves drawn to the park

and then found themselves returning the next day and the day after

staying, performing critical roles, trying to find consensus in this movement that proudly

insists it has no leaders.

A few days that became the crystallizing moment for Occupy Wall Street,

today and unfictional, occupation in October. Occupy Wall Street is many things, some true, some not.
