I want to talk about three things relative to obeying Christ.

They overlap.

But they all drive home this concept that if we're going to come to know him as he wishes to be known,

desires to be known, then we must follow him

to the point of radical obedience, which can be tough.

It's not hard to obey the areas that you are comfortable with,

but to follow him in dogged obedience can be rather difficult.

Matthew chapter 7, where we will look at the first of a number of passages, this one

addressing the issue of the foundation of obedience.

Jesus tells a little story after proclaiming the sermon on the mount, and these are his words.

Verse 24, therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them may be compared to a wise man who built his house upon the rock.

The rains descended, the floods came,

the winds blew and burst against the house,

and yet it did not fall,

for it had been founded upon the rock.
