England are out of yet another World Cup.

The BBC are still defending their ridiculously high pay levels,

and Boris Johnson wants to build another bridge, this time between Northern Ireland and the mainland of Great Britain.

Well, that's not going to happen, is it?

More seriously, though, the Prime Minister to be has got a lot better ideas after yet another hustings with Jeremy Hunt over at Belfast

yesterday. We heard some of that on the show yesterday as well. He's promised to review the so-called

sin taxes on foods high in fat, sugar and salt. Boris isn't sure if the taxes actually work,

and he's claiming, quite rightly, I think, that they are a disproportionately high penalty

on people on lower incomes.

After all, we don't live in a police state. Why should we be told what to eat, what to drink,

when to eat it, when to drink it, how much exercise to take, what we should be putting in our

mouths, what we should be smoking, what we shouldn't be smoking. Boris's desire to remove the taxes

comes on the same day as we hear the war on smoking has been won,

and that obesity is now the biggest danger to our health, and the biggest risk to contracting cancer as well.

Surely all these things must be related, mustn't they?

Low rates of smoking and high rates of obesity.
