Oh, this grew out of some discussions on Morning Edition, the program that I work for.

And I love your suggestion of listening on a road trip because it's a road trip.

We wanted to find some way to capture the way the country has changed in the last eight

And we decided to do that by traveling across the country, talking with people in different

states, including people we met entirely at random.
