On this Thursday, I'd like to wish you all a happy St. Patrick's Day and I am qualified

to do that.

According to the PBS program, finding your roots, I, your humble correspondent, am about

90% Celtic.

The rest of my bloodline is Viking or something in cold Northern Europe.

Because my ancestors arrived in America in the 18th and 19th centuries very early, the

90% Irish thing is very unusual.

In fact, the PBS program said I was the highest pure bloodline they ever had on the show.

The question is, is that good?

Well, let's look at both sides.

If you are heavily Irish, you are usually verbal.

You are often loyal.

Good thing.

Catholic, I like the religion, but it's controversial now and many, many Irish have a great sense

of humor.

On the negative side, we are not so emotional, particularly the men.

We brood occasionally, sometimes more than occasionally, and many Irish are set in their

ways.

All in all, however, I am very proud to be Irish and you should be proud to be whatever

your ethnic background is.
