On this Wednesday, I watched an interesting piece of history last night in the form of

the 1967 film Guess Who's Coming to Dinner.

The classic star is Catherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy as liberal parents, who are facing

their daughter wanting to marry a black man in the fast-changing 60s.

Based by Stanley Kramer, the film was nominated for Best Picture, but lost to another race-themed

movie in the heat of the night.

Incredibly, Sidney Poitier appeared in both films, and was nominated for Best Actor for

Playing, Detective Virgil Tibbs in Heat.

Poitier lost to Rod Steiger, who played the racist sheriff in that crime drama.

Previously, Poitier had won the Best Actor Oscar for Lilies of the Field.
