Welcome to Recode Media with Peter Kafka. That is me. I'm back in Brooklyn. It's the last week of August. I'm trying to get some rest. I hope you are, too. This fall is going to be weird. So let's save our strength and let's be safe. Because it's the last

week of August, it was 2020. It is a good time to talk politics and the media business. So we're

going to do that with two chats. First up is the New York Times great James Ponziac,

who covers TV, which means he's really astute political reporter. And I talked about the virtual conventions we've been watching, the Democrats and now the Republicans, and what that tells us about the state of politics. Then after that, we've got to chat with CNN's Brian Stelter, who's got a new bookout, hoax. It's about the way Donald Trump and Fox News have essentially become the same thing.

As Brian and I discussed, I've got a problem with the folks in his book who argue that Fox News has been sort of twisted and warped and corrupted by Trump because I don't think it was ever a straight player to begin with.

But Brian's got lots of good details about the way it's been specifically corrupted and warped during the Trump years.
