Picture this. It's a gorgeous June

afternoon in 1983, and you are high up in the Elkhorn Mountains of Montana. The sun is warm,

the air is fresh, and a group of friends and families from the Capitol City Radio Club are all

gathered for a big picnic. The adults are busy talking and laughing

around the food and the kids are doing exactly what kids should be doing, running around barefoot

and catching frogs in a shallow creek. It was the kind of perfect summer day that most of us

remember from our childhoods, full of freedom and the feeling that nothing bad could ever happen

in a place so pretty. But in an instant, that peace was shattered. While the kids were playing

in a creek, a few of them noticed something strange. There was a man there, right in the middle

of this family event, wearing a purple jogging suit.

He wasn't with the group, but he was talking to one of the little girls.

And according to the other children, he told her three words.

That still give me chills.

Within minutes, those other kids walked just a little bit ahead of her,

and when they turned around, she was gone.

She had simply vanished into the trees.
