About four years ago, I got a sequence of strange messages to my phone.

I still remember the first one.

Where are you?

With the wrong word for where?

By the letters R and U. Popped up on my phone from a number that I did not recognize.

But it came from my area code.

I used to change my phone number often, so some of my old friends ask each other for my

current number and text me by telling me who they are.

Hi, who is this?

I asked.

No reply.

I forgot about the message for a few days, but I got another one, saying the same thing.

From the same number.

One late Saturday night.

I ignored the message that night and chose not to respond the following morning.

It was almost automatic and didn't think anything of it.

As I was wiping the windshield from all the dew from the dark morning, I got another

message.

When I got inside, I looked at my phone.

It was strange for me to get a text at 5am.

Denys today?

That was the message.
