Summary

Pastor Tim Ross walks us through the story of the prodigal son. Sometimes being numb to your current reality can cause you to make decisions that are outside of God’s will. While the youngest son was outside of his father’s presence, he squandered his money and found himself working amongst pigs. Sin always takes you farther than you planned. In the midst of being in the pig stye, the youngest son came to his senses. In repentance, he ran back to his father’s house and was greeted with a party only to be met by a brother who was numb himself. What this message teaches us is that there can be 2 extremes of being numb - for some of us, we have sinned and can come back to our senses, for others we have to be careful to not allow our outward “perfection” to make us numb to our inward imperfections.

1:00.0	So, familiar passage of Scripture, I'm sure if you have not read it, you've heard about it.
1:09.0	But one thing about God's Word is that it is ever speaking.
1:14.0	It is the only book that is alive, it is the only book that is breathing, it is the only book that as you open, it opens you.
1:25.0	As you read, it reads you.
1:30.0	So, I'm reading from the New Living Translation of the Bible, starting at the 11th verse, here's what it says.
1:37.0	To illustrate the point further, Jesus is talking to some religious leaders who have a problem with him associating with sinful people.
1:51.0	What's interesting about their allegation against Jesus in this episode, this chapter, is that these sinners were coming to hear Jesus' teach.
2:06.0	He wasn't at the club with them, he wasn't out drinking with them, he wasn't hanging out at a bar.
2:15.0	His message happened to be so compelling that sinners wanted to hear more.
2:23.0	And the religious leaders indicted him because of who he was drawing to him.
2:34.0	They wanted a message that would only draw the elite, but Jesus was drawing those from the streets.
2:48.0	They had an issue with it.
2:52.0	So, Jesus gives three parables, one about the law sheep, one about the lost coin, and then he starts off on this one to illustrate the point further.
3:00.0	Jesus told them this story.
