New York City Police, who've been searching for a health

industry executive's killer since last week, may have their men. Today, city officials

announced Luigi Mangione is a person of interest. They say the 26-year-old was picked up in

Altoona, Pennsylvania. New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tish says, somebody recognized

Mangione from all the photos, police circulated. The suspect was in a McDonald's and was

recognized by an employee who then called local police. Responding officers questioned the suspect,

who was acting suspiciously and was carrying multiple fraudulent IDs as well as a U.S. passport.

Commissioner Tish says local police found what they believe was the same firearm and clothing used by the suspect who gunned down United Health Care CEO Brian Thompson outside of Manhattan Hotel last Wednesday.

The NYPD arrived in Altoona a short time ago to take custody of Mangione.

A juries found Marine veteran Daniel Penny not guilty in the New York City subway chokehold

death of Jordan Neely in 2023.

The defense argued Penny was trying to protect himself and others from a mentally ill person

who was acting erratically

and verbally threatening passengers. Prosecutors said Penny went too far. As Syria navigates the

aftermath of President Bashar al-Assad's ouster, the U.S. has carried out a large air strike in Syria

against ISIS fighters, still active in the country. NPR's Greg Myrie reports President Biden says the U.S. will maintain its military presence

in Syria for now.

The Pentagon reported the U.S. hit some 75 targets in the unusually large strike on Islamic

state bases in central Syria.
