Federal officials in a nonprofit group say the Afghan man who was allegedly shot

two National Guard members in Washington, D.C., worked with the unit linked to the CIA.

The FBI says the suspect, Ramanula Lackinwal, is now the focus of a terrorism investigation. NPR's Brian Mann reports.

CIA officials have confirmed Lackenwal worked with the U.S. government in Afghanistan,

a nonprofit group called Afghan Evac, says Lackenwal served with an elite counterterrorism unit.

FBI director Kash Patel says that history will be a focus of their probe.

We are fully investigating that aspect of his background as well, to include any known associates

that are either overseas or here in the United States of America.

Lackenwald entered the U.S. in 2021 and was granted asylum in April of this year.

Officials say the two West Virginia National Guard soldiers injured in

Wednesday's attack have undergone surgery and remain in critical condition. Brian Mann, NPR News.

The shooting suspect, meanwhile, is facing multiple charges, including three counts of assault

with intent to kill while armed, along with possession of a firearm during a crime of

violence. But Attorney General Pam Bondi says that could change.

who should not have been in our country.
