Secretary of State Anthony Blinkin says the Hamas leader that was killed in Gaza repeatedly blocked a ceasefire deal that would have seen

hostages freed. Now Blinkin says he'll redouble his efforts to end the conflict.

He didn't just launch this conflict,

but for the past year has refused the efforts of the United States and our partners to end it.

He says Secretary Blinken has been on the phone with Arab leaders who have been involved in hostage talks.

It's not clear who will take

Americans being held in Gaza say they fear the lives of the hostages are in great danger now more than ever

and they're calling on Israel and the US to do everything to make a deal.
