Live from NPR News, I'm Janine Herbst. A federal appeals court has struck down most of President Trump's worldwide tariffs.

But as NPR Scott Horsley reports, the government will continue to collect those taxes for now.

The appeals court agreed with a specialty trade court that President Trump overstepped his authority in ordering tariffs on virtually everything the U.S. imports using a 1970s-era law that doesn't mention the word tariffs, and it had never been used for that purpose before.

The court ruling is a major blow to the president's economic agenda and a victory for the small businesses and states that challenge the import taxes.

The appeals court will hold off enforcing its order, however, to give the administration time

to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The government's been collecting about $30 billion a month in import taxes.

Most of that revenue would be jeopardized if this ruling stands.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio revoked the visas of a number of Palestinian Authority

and Palestine Liberation Organization officials ahead of next month's high-level meeting

of the U.N. General Assembly in New York.

He also ordered that some new visa applications from Palestinian officials be denied.

It's not clear how many visas were revoked or applications denied

or whether the actions affect Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

respond accordingly. The Trump administration has taken steps to target Palestinians with visa restrictions.
