Texas Democrats have successfully, at least for now,

prevented Republicans from moving forward

on a plan backed by President Trump

to redraw the state's congressional map.

Dozens of Democrats fled the state over the weekend, denying Republicans the legislative

quorum needed to vote on the new map.

They say it's an illegal gerrymander, but Texas Governor Greg Abbott says there's nothing

illegal about it.

Gerimandering can be done or drawing lines can be done on the basis of political makeup,

as in Republican versus Democrat, and there's nothing illegal about that.

And then when you look at the outcome of the most recent presidential election,

all these districts that are being added are districts that were won by Trump.

Abbott spoke today on Fox News. He has threatened to remove Democratic members from their seats,

but Democrats say Abbott is using smoke and mirrors to assert legal authority he does not have.
