Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell speaking this hour about the central bank's decision to keep the key interest rate steady for now, despite President Trump's pressure to lower borrowing costs.

The central bank left its benchmark interest rate

unchanged this afternoon. The decision affects the cost that businesses and consumers pay to borrow

money, to buy a car, build a factory, or carry a balance on a credit card. Inflation is still

somewhat higher than the Fed would like, and President Trump's tariffs could put more upward

pressure on prices.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate remains low, so most Fed policymakers are not in a hurry to cut borrowing

cost. Two members, the Fed's rate setting committee dissented, however, saying they would have

preferred to cut interest rates by a quarter percentage point. Investors think the full committee

is likely to approve a rate cut at the next Fed meeting in September.

Republicans in the Texas House of Representatives have released a proposed redistricting map that seeks to fulfill President Trump's desire to add more Republican congressional seats in the state.

Houston Public Media senior politics reporter Andrew Snyder has been following the story for us.

From the map that I've been able to look at, it looks like there are at least five seats that the Republicans are looking to pick up.

The main ones are in the south of the state in the Rio Grande Valley, which has been

trending Republican for some time, as well as a few in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Also, in the Houston area, we have a few seats that have been moved around geographically,

so Democrats will likely be able to hold them, but they will be running an unfamiliar territory.

New district lines in Texas and elsewhere could play a key role in determining which party controls a U.S. House after next year's midterms.
