Live from NPR News in Washington, encore of a coalman, about 180 million people in the

U.S. are under excessive heat warnings or heated visories. The Southwest is still mired

in triple-digit temperatures and heat indexes, but so are the central plains and much of

the mid-Atlantic coast.

Forecasters say areas in the northeast and the mid-Atlantic will seat their hottest temperatures

so far this year.

The World Meteorological Organization warns that this July is poised to become the hottest

month ever on Earth. Researchers say the heat on three continents, Asia, Europe and

North America has been so blistering that a record is inevitable.

President Biden is traveling to Maine today to tout his economic agenda. NPR's Deepa

Shiveron reports Biden will visit a textile company in Auburn and sign an executive order

to boost manufacturing.

Biden's new executive order will increase incentives for manufacturers to create new inventions

in the United States when those inventions were created with the help of federal funds.

The White House says it will also modernize the government reporting system used to track

innovations and data on manufacturing locations.

Biden's announcement comes as the White House has been trying to emphasize that the President's

economic agenda is working, despite voters overall disapproving of his handling of the

economy.
