Vice President Kamala Harris met today at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin

Netanyahu, the meeting between the likely Democratic presidential nominee coming after the Israeli

leader met earlier with President Joe Biden. Harris emerged from the meeting saying

she has an unwavering commitment to the state of Israel, but also pretty quickly

turned to the ongoing loss of life in Gaza due to Israel's war with Hamas.

I also expressed with the Prime Minister my serious concern

about the scale of human suffering in Gaza,

including the death of far too many innocent civilians.

And I made clear my serious concern about the dire humanitarian situation there.

Harris echoed President Biden's call for a swift ceasefire in an end of fighting.

White House officials continue to say those negotiations are in the closing stages,

though they also say there are still issues to be resolved.

Vice President Harris, meanwhile expressed her strong support for unions today at a campaign stop in Houston.

Harris was addressing a gathering of the American Federation of Teachers, the first union to
