President Biden is calling on Democrats to come together to beat Republican presidential nominee

Donald Trump in November.

Biden announced today that he was dropping his to replace Biden on the Democratic ticket.

She has said that she wants to earn and win this vote.

I will also say though, I don't think we're going to see a whole lot of serious

contenders try to vie for this Democratic nomination and take it away from her in

major part because there's a realistic assessment that it will split the party more

NPR's Asma Hollid and number of US governors are responding to Biden's announcement.

In Pennsylvania, Governor Josh Shapiro says the best path forward for the Democratic

Party is to quickly unite behind Harris.

President Biden's decision to exit the race

follows mounting calls from Congressional Democrats

for him to step aside.

NPR's Barbara Sprint reports Democrats in both the House and Senate were quick to praise the move.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said President Biden's decision wasn't easy,

but that he, quote, once again put his country,
