The House of Representatives has approved a White House request to claw back two years of previously approved funding for public media.

The recisions package now moves on to the Senate.

This move poses a serious threat to local stations and public media as we know it.

A preliminary report into the Air India crash that killed 260 people last month

shows that fuel to the engines was cut off moments after liftoff.

NPR's Joel Rose reports two switches that control the fuel supply were flipped almost simultaneously.

Investigators in India say the switches that control the fuel supply to the engines were flipped,

from run to cut off, about three seconds after liftoff. That starved the

engines of fuel, causing the plane to lose thrust and altitude. But it's not clear why those switches

were flipped. In the cockpit voice recording, one of the pilots can be heard asking the other,

quote, why did he cut off, according to the preliminary report, while the other pilot responded,

quote, that he did not do so.

260 people were killed when the Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed shortly after it took off

from Ahmedabad on its way to London, one of the worst aviation disasters in the history of India.
