Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Jack Spear. A damaged section of I-95 in Philadelphia

has reopened ahead of schedule. Remember station WHY-Y Kristen Mossbacher-Garza reports

the bridge collapsed two weeks ago after a deadly gas truck fire.

Construction crews have been working around the clock for the past twelve days to stand

up six lanes of temporary roadway along a busy stretch of I-95, which runs from Maine

to Florida. The lanes are sitting atop 15,000 cubic yards of a gravel-like material forged

from glass. My carol is Pennsylvania's Secretary of Transportation.

So the reality is we work to the last possible minute to get it done well and safely, it's

ready for traffic.

Philadelphia resident Lizzie O'Leary says she's optimistic.

I'll probably wait till Tuesday, definitely today.

It's estimated to cost about 30 million to complete the permanent fix in the coming months.

Russia has fired more than a dozen cruise missiles at a city in western Ukraine that is

rarely targeted.

As NPR's Greg Mari explains, Ukraine says it chocked them all down.

Russia launches airstrikes almost every night against Ukraine. But this time the target

was unusual. The western city of Homolynitsky hundreds of miles from the front line.

Ukraine says its air defense system is knocked out all 13 cruise missiles that targeted a

military airfield. This is in line with Ukraine's high rate of success against incoming

Russian air attacks.
