The head of the UN nuclear watchdog agency arrived at the troubled Zapparija nuclear plant

in southeastern Ukraine today.

They'd yet another risk to its safety.

As NPR's Greg Mirry reports, the plant could face a potential shortage of water needed

to cool its nuclear core.

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, said he wanted

a first-hand assessment of conditions at the Zapparija nuclear power plant.

The destruction of a major dam last week caused water levels to fall dramatically in a reservoir

next to the plant.

That reservoir cools the six nuclear reactors at the plant, the largest such facility in

Europe.

Grossi says there's no immediate danger, but adds the plant must have a dependable water

source.

This is his third visit since last fall to the facility, which is controlled by Russian

troops, but still run by Ukrainian workers.
