Congress is considering a rescissions package from the White House that would claw back more than $1 billion of public media funding.

Federal funding for all of public media amounts to about $1.60 per person per year.

Live from NPR news in Washington, I'm Jack Spear. California officials are now saying they

plan to sue the Trump administration over the president's order to send 2,000 National

State leaders say the president overstepped his authority, sending troops without the governor's

approval or request.

Remember station KQED Guy Marzorati reports.

President Trump called in the guard to Los Angeles this weekend after protests broke out

in response to federal immigration enforcement in

the area. But California Attorney General Rob Bonta is arguing Trump did not get the necessary

approval from California Governor Gavin Newsom. The two were suing the administration together.

This is something that is within Governor Newsom's sovereignty. I mean, he did not

authorize the use of the National Guard here, did not call for it. Bonta has filed more than 20

lawsuits against the administration since Trump took office in January. For NPR News, I'm Guy

Marzarotti in San Jose. Meanwhile, there's now confirmation the administration has mobilized

active duty military troops, as many as 700 Marines, potentially go to Los Angeles.

A travel ban restricting the entry of citizens from 19 countries has taken effect today.

The ban echoes a similar prohibition passed during the last Trump administration.
