Ukraine warns the surrounding Herzone region could be flooded by billions of gallons of

water.

It could also deplete cooling water stores needed for the Zaparige at nuclear power plant.

A Republican lawmaker says he's reached a deal with Secretary of State Antony Blinken

over some Afghanistan-related documents.

As NPR's Michelle Kellman reports, this removes a threat to file contempt charges against

America's top diplomat.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCall says he's taking contempt off the

table.

After the State Department agreed to let committee members read a dissent cable.

McCall says the document contains first-hand information from employees at the U.S. Embassy

in Kabul who raised concerns with Blinken ahead of the Taliban takeover.

Lawmakers will also be able to read the Secretary's response.

McCall and the committee's ranking Democrat came to the department recently to read the

documents and the State Department thought that would satisfy a subpoena, but McCall pressed

for all members to have access as they investigate the chaotic U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.
