This American Life. Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Janine Hurst. The Senate returns

from its Memorial Day recess tomorrow, and President Trump's big tax-cutting bill is topping their

to-do list. The House passed the bill with just barely,

though, by one vote. Trump is demanding his party get in line and pass this, but some Senate

Republicans say it can't pass their chamber in its current form. And Pierce, Tamara Keith, has more.

The big questions are how hard it will be for Senate Republicans to pass this and how many changes

they'll make to the House version. There's a lot of pressure on Senate Republicans because this

basically contains Trump's entire domestic agenda, all in one bill, tax cuts, immigration

spending, cuts to Medicaid, and other programs.

And Pierce Tamara Keith reporting, Democrats are keying in on cuts to Medicaid, which provides health care to lower income Americans and food assistance. Some Republicans are alarmed by

how much it's projected to add to the national deficit. The Department of Homeland Security

has released a list of local governments.

It says aren't cooperating with immigration enforcement in preparation for cutting funds to them.

VPM news is Chad Kille reports that Virginia Republicans are questioning that distinction.

33 local Virginia governments are on the list, including in conservative places.
