Coleman, President Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy held more talks last night about

the debt ceiling.

They did not reach an agreement, but NPR's Hemen and Bustiel reports they've directed

their negotiators to continue talking.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy told reporters that he plans to meet with President Biden

every day, or at least talk on the phone until a deal is reached.

Although the pair walked out of their latest meeting without a deal, both expressed optimism

that neither party wants to see an unprecedented default at the end of the month.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen reiterated that the nation could run out of money to

pay its bills as early as June 1st.

The Biden administration and House Republicans have each doubled down on their own red lines,

while simultaneously blaming each other for stalled progress.

At issue in the spending talks are items like work requirements for federal safety net programs,

COVID and climate funding and permitting reform.

There's supposed to be a seven-day ceasefire in place in Sudan between the two warring parties,

but Michael Kalloki reports from Nairobi there have been reports of new clashes in Sudan.

Gunfire explosions were reported last night in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, as well as

in the nearby cities of Omdurman and Bahri.
