Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Janine Herbst. President Trump has again canceled plans to send

negotiators to Pakistan for peace talks with Iran. Meanwhile, Israel says it will strike Lebanon with force

targeting Hezbollah, despite the U.S. brokered ceasefire. And Pierce Eleanor Beardsley reports.

The announcement came as Israelis demonstrated against Benjamin Netanyahu in Central Tel Aviv.

One of the protesters, 55-year-old Danny Cohen, says it's a real dilemma.

Because on one hand, it's clear that Iran and Hezbollah are billing their powers to,

and declaring their intention, preliminary to Israel.

He says the lesson of the October 7 Hamas attack was not to let your enemies get too strong.

But at the same time, personally, I don't trust the, our current government, that they are

generally doing it for the best interest of the country rather than their own personal political

needs.

Cohen says he doesn't know what will happen, but he trusts the U.S. government more than his own.

President Trump is to attend the annual White House Correspondents Association dinner tonight in D.C.,

his first appearance as president.

And Pierce Tamer Keith reports.

In 2011, Trump attended as a celebrity guest at a time when he was on a

high-profile conspiracy-driven quest to get then-President Obama to release his birth certificate. Both Obama and

comedian Seth Myers mocked Trump relentlessly that night. Trump boycotted the dinner his entire first term. This year,

the association hired a mentalist instead of a comedian, and the president, who calls the

press, the enemy of the people, agreed to attend. Press Secretary Caroline Levitt gave a preview of
