Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Janine Herbst. President Trump says the U.S. military has rescued the missing airman whose F-15E plane was shot down over Iran Friday.

The Air Force officer was extracted in a massive operation involving hundreds of military personnel.

The other crew member was rescued earlier. And

peers Greg Mirey has more. Trump said the Iranians were closing in on him, but the U.S. forces

found him first. They picked him up, flew him out of Iran. Trump says he's safe and sound,

though we don't know exactly where he is or the extent of his injuries. Still a lot of

details we don't know. The New York Times

is reporting that two U.S. planes landed to pick up the injured colonel and the other troops,

but we're not able to fly out. NPR's Greg Myrie. Israeli attacks have killed at least 39 people

across Lebanon today, according to health officials there.

And Fares Lauren Freer reports one of the biggest attacks targeted Beirut's southern suburbs,

where Iran-backed Hezbollah has offices.

Residents posted this video to social media, showing people covered in gray dust,

ferrying the wounded out of a collapsed building on slings

made of blankets. Israel often issues evacuation orders, but this attack in Beirut's coastal area

of Jinnach came without warning, hitting a dense residential area near a public hospital.

Health officials say a four-year-old girl was among those killed in another Israeli airstrike near the coastal city of Saidan,

which has absorbed thousands of displaced people from farther south. Israel had warned her entire village to flee.

And a Vatican-led aid convoy was canceled on Easter Sunday for security reasons.

It was trying to bring aid to Christian villages under siege in

southern Lebanon, where fighting between Hezbollah and Israeli ground troops is heaviest.
