After weeks of anxious waiting, investors hope to get some clarity this hour about President

Trump's new tariff plans.

NPR Scott Horsley reports a White House carefully timed the president's tariff announcement after the stock market closed for the day.

Trump insists tariff will be a boon for made in the USA, but worries about stiff new import taxes

have been a drag on financial markets in recent weeks. Economists warned that tariffs will lead to higher prices, slower GDP growth, and possibly fewer

jobs in the months to come. Other countries have already promised to retaliate with tariffs

to their own on U.S. exports. That threat, along with uncertainty over tariffs, is already

weighing on U.S. manufacturing. A survey of factory managers released

this week showed tariffs were a top concern for the fourth month in a row. The survey found

new factory orders, output, and employment were all down in March. Scott Horsley and P.R. News,

Washington. U.S. stocks closed higher. The Dow ended up 235 points, or roughly half a percent. Israeli Prime Minister

Benjamin Netanyahu says Israeli troops are seizing more land in Gaza, including a new

strategic corridor. More from NPR's Daniel Estrin. In a video, Netanyahu said Israeli troops

are establishing a third security corridor that will cut across southern Gaza. It will run parallel to a border
