Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Janine Hurst. The European Union is demanding an explanation for President

Trump's decision to impose a 15 percent tariff on imports to the U.S. after the Supreme Court

struck down his sweeping global import duties. Terry Schultz reports the EU's executive arm says

Washington has to honor a trade agreement it concluded with the block last year.

A deal is a deal, the European Commission says, in a written response to President Trump's announcement

of new tariffs. It adds that, as the U.S.'s largest trading partner, the European Union wants

full clarity on Washington's next steps and expects an agreement the two sides made last

August to be respected. That accord set a 15% import duty on most EU goods other than those

which are already covered by other U.S. tariffs, such as steel and aluminum. Some products even have

zero tariffs in the agreement. In exchange, the EU agreed to remove many tariffs on U.S. imports. The European

Parliament was due to vote on the U.S. EU trade deal Tuesday, but the head of the Trade

Committee says he now wants to delay it. For NPR News, I'm Terry Schultz in Brussels.

The Secret Service says an armed man was shot and killed at Mara Lago and Palm Beach, Florida

early this morning,

after he breached a security perimeter at President Trump's resort, Palm Beach Sheriff Rick Bradshaw.

They confronted a white male that was carried a gas can and a shotgun.

He was ordered to drop those two pieces of equipment that he had with them, at which time he put down the gas can, raised the shotgun to a shooting position.

At that point in time, the deputy and the two secret service agents fired their weapons.

Trump wasn't there at the time. He's in D.C. preparing

for the state of the Union. The man died at the scene and no agents or officers were injured.
