Coleman, President Biden has given his first public remarks about the three unidentified

objects shot down last weekend over North America.

He says the intelligence community believes the objects were most likely benign and commercial

or research-related.

As NPR's Tamara Keith explains, a process is underway to develop new rules of engagement.

President Biden said there isn't any evidence of a sudden increase of objects in the sky.

But in the wake of the Chinese spy balloon incident and these three shoot downs, the US

needs to adapt its approach.

I've directed my team to come back to me with sharper rules for how we will deal with

these unidentified objects moving forward.

Distinguishing between those that are likely to pose safety and security risks that necessitate

action and those that do not.

But make no mistake.

If any object presents a threat to the safety of security of the American people, I will

take it down.

Biden said he also wants to see updated rules and regulations for launching unmanned aerial

objects.
