Live from NPR News in Washington. I'm Jack Spear. President Biden says his administration is discussing a potential deal between Israel and Hamas

that would see fighting in Gaza stop for at least six weeks.

NPR's Franco-ordonias reports the plan would allow for hostages to be released

and humanitarian aid to flow into Gaza.

President Biden was speaking after meeting with Jordan's King Abdullah.

Biden spoke of the unimaginable pain and loss by

Palestinian civilians in Gaza. They lack access to food and water. They haven't

had a chance to mourn or bury their dead.

Too many of the over 27,000 Palestinians killed in this conflict

have an innocent civilians and children.

Biden says Israel shouldn't go ahead with a military operation in Raffa without a credible

plan for the safety of more than 1 million people sheltering there.

He also says that the Palestinian Authority needs reforms so that it can be ready to lead once Hamas's control over Gaza ends.

Reaction is coming in in regards to remarks made over the weekend

by former President Donald Trump

that he would allow Russia to do whatever it wants to NATO members

who are behind on their payments to the Alliance.

The remarks are just the latest incidents where the current GOP front runner appears to

side with the authoritarian Putin leadership over U.S. allies.
